First Holy Communion 2023 27th May 2023
We would like to thank all the children who celebrated their 1st Holy Communion in St Anne's Church Shanaglish Saturday 7th of May. This day that is celebrated by family and community would not have been possible without the amazing Ms Moroney, Fr Tommy and the support from all the parents.
Confirmation 23rd February2023
Bishop Michael Duignan administered a beautiful Confirmation ceremony at St Anne's Church Shanaglish Thursday the 23rd of February. The sun shone down on the children of Lurga, Lough Cutra and Tubber and their families as they celebrated this very special day. Well done to all it was truly a day to be remembered. Massive thanks goes to all the teachers involved with their schools in preparing the children for this sacrament and to our own Mr Cian McNamara who worked tirelessly in ensuring that all was ready for this magical day.
Confirmation for 5th & 6th classes will take place in St. Anne's Church Shanaglish on the 23rd of February 2023 @ 3:00 p.m.
There will be 3 masses held in advance of this special sacrament in St. Annes Church, Shanaglish. These masses are designed to develop the children’s understanding of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
We would ask that all parents/guardians and their children sit in the main aisle of the church for all the masses below:-
Children will be involved in the masses and are not required to wear their school uniform. Children may sit with their families during the masses. IT is important that parents/guardians and children attend all masses.

2021 Confirmation Date Set
A date has been set for the 5th and 6th class confirmation (all going well) for Saturday the 21st of August at 11:00 a.m.
10th August 2021
Dear Parents,
Following consultation with our local school principals, I am delighted to announce that the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation for the 5th & 6th class pupils of Lough Cutra National School and Lurga National School, will take place on
Saturday 21st August in St. Anne’s Church, Shanaglish
11am Service - Lurga National School
1pm Service - Lough Cutra National School
The current Covid – 19 restrictions mean that the ceremony will be much simpler, but there is great potential to focus on and emphasise the essential heart of what this Sacrament is all about.
The following arrangements for the celebration of Confirmation in our Church have been prepared in consultation with the Diocese of Galway, Kilmacduagh and Kilfenora. They take into account the guidance set forth by the Public Health Authorities and the Government in relation to physical distancing and hygiene.
ARRIVAL AT THE CHURCH
Each family will be reserved one seat only. The seat will accommodate approximately 7 people. The pupil receiving the sacrament of Confirmation will be seated with their family. The family should enter the church together and will be shown to their seat by a steward. They should observe physical distancing from other people at all times. Any person who may be more vulnerable to the Covid-19 virus should not attend the ceremony under any circumstance.
THE CEREMONY
The candidate for Confirmation should be seated at the end of the seat nearest the aisle with their sponsor beside them. They should remain in their seat at all times. The Bishop will come to confirm them at that place.
ADMINISTRATION OF THE SACRAMENT
The candidate for Confirmation should hold their Confirmation card in their hands, with their name and Confirmation name written clearly on it. The candidates should stand to receive the sacrament and sit afterwards.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Mobile phones, iPads or cameras should not be used during the ceremony. Group photographs are suspended at this time. Family photographs may be taken, outdoors preferably.
EXITING THE CHURCH
Stewards will arrange for an orderly exit from the church, family by family, seat by seat. ∙ Physical distancing should be observed in the grounds of the church at all times.
In conclusion, I recognise that the above guidance may seem very severe and the restriction of numbers unfair. However, caution and care for others is what matters during this unprecedented pandemic.
I look forward to celebrating your special day with you.

Letter Regarding Confirmation & Communion 2021
We are sorry it has taken us so long to get back to you with regards to the sacraments for the classes of 2021. Following a meeting with the Western Bishops, the guidance from the Diocesan Office is as follows:
Given the publication of the five stage plan "Covid - 19 Resilience and Recovery 2021: The Path Ahead", public sacramental life can only return under Level 2 restrictions. This suggests that we may not have the opportunity to celebrate Mass together for months to come. As a result
it is difficult to have confidence that the Sacraments of First
Communion and Confirmation can be celebrated before the end of the present school year.
As of now, we have decided to defer the Sacrament of First Holy Communion and Confirmation for the 2021 class until Autumn (preferably late August or early September). Should the circumstances change for the better, this decision can be revisited.
We understand the experience of disappointment and frustration that the parents and indeed students will feel by this news. However, we must support the public health restrictions on the grounds that they serve the common good. We would appreciate if you could let the parents of your 2nd and 5th & 6th classes know of the decision we have come to.
Once all classes have returned to school, we will make contact to organise a meeting for all school principals to rearrange dates.
Many thanks for your assistance with this matter.
If you have any queries in relation to the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Fr. Tommy Marrinan and Fr. Michael King.
